Introduction To The New Honda NSX

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

The Honda NSX is a pretty famous car for sale at an affordable price range.  However, this looks set to change when the new variant arrives, sometime in 2010 (or possibly 2011).

The new Honda Car has been spotted lapping the Nurburgring (apparently the current trendy test ground for racers of any note) quite happily, especially as development has only just begun.  Nonetheless, already the engineers have been handed two quite challenging targets.

Honda wants to build the fastest production model around the circuit – a fairly impressive desire.  Whether this is an achievable goal remains to be seen, what with the Nissan GT-R managing a ferocious sub seven minute thirty lap time.  Scary indeed, though unsurprising given that the GT-R is capable of 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and that 13 mile Nurburgring has a wealth of turns, straights and just about everything else you can throw at a driver.

The car to replace the NSX may well not bear the same moniker, so we’re waiting news on that.  However, we do know that it will feature a 550bhp 5.5 litre V10 with clever ‘cylinder deactivation’.  What that means is that the engine will only be running on half the cylinders when just pootling to the shops, and all 10 when you press on to make sure that your ice-cream doesn’t melt.  This will give you better fuel economy and lower emissions.  Torque is set up at a frankly terrifying 570Nm – enough to rip your face off.

The set up of this luxury car will be a 2+2 arrangement (will there be actual room for real human beings in the back though?), with a hybrid aluminium and steel body in order to reduce weight.  For the old school amongst you you’ll be disappointed with the eight-speed auto gearbox with flappy paddles (even if it is one of those shifts-as-fast-as-F1 jobbers).  Naturally, trick four wheel drive will make you the proud owner of the fastest thing to pull away from the lights (or race round Milton Keynes ring roads) this side of the new Porsche 911.

The Popular Vintage Cars And Their Improvements

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

After the devastating effects of World War I, the Vintage era came to bloom. Back then, people were still on the verge of fixing things; every mess that the war left behind. But that didn’t stop them from picking up the pieces and starting anew. Thus, the era of vintage cars were born came to a starting point.

Aside from the cars, there are several improvements that happened and paved the way to the road of development. Although, here are some of the changes made to the cars which happened before:

* Hydraulic brakes are brought up.

* Four-wheel brake was introduced to depress b y a single foot on a pedal.

* Power steering is one of the most amazing technological innovation out, allowing the driver to manipulate the wheel easily even during the toughest road conditions.

* Anti-freeze was introduced to enable cars that are water-cooled to be used even during the winter season.

* Car heating and in-car radio was introduced to generally increase the driver and passengers comfort while inside the car.

Vintage cars during the vintage era were comfortable, convenient and practical. All these qualities made the cars very popular. Vintage exotic cars were widely used because of the many improvements and innovations made solely for the drivers easier maintenance and comfort.

There were several cars introduced during the era. They were all produced for the owners preference because of the variety of styles and designs.

Cadillac V16
The most popular V16 engine was boasted by this Antique Cadillac Car which is why, it is considered as the finest automobil ever made.

Austin Seven
This automobile helped Britain’s car industry kick off. Because of its design being so adaptable and popular, even modern car manufacturers are being inspired by it and are making cars with the exact design to entice antique car lovers.

Ford Model A
Styles are made numerous. More reason for it to become the best-selling car model during the era.

Now that you have a clearer view of the race cars and improvements back then, you wouldn’t wonder how old cars like these can dominate the wide screen car industry and make a big hit in being sold out.

Purchase A Smart Car For Its Fuel Efficiency

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Smart car gas mileage might be one of the most important factors that will decide whether the smart automobile will improve its market share. The Daimler automobile is set to make its debut in the United States in 2008 and will soon be joining other eco-automobiles that had suddenly become quite a trend in automobile manufacturing.

The debate surrounding smart car gas mileage is yet to reach its conclusion. The manufacturer of such luxurious cars has touted the stylish design of the vehicle and its fuel efficiency. However, not everyone is convinced of the gas efficiency of this tiny automobile.

The smart car measures 98.4 inches in length. The idea behind its size is to allow the automobile easy parking, with two or three smart cars able to occupy a parking slot reserved for a single regular-sized car. The smart is offered in various models; the Smart Fortwo, Roadster, Crosstown and the Forfour supermini.

Designed as an ecological vehicle, the automobile has a hybrid engine and other innovative features developed with ecological purposes in mind. An electric version of the smart car is also being offered in Great Britain as a lease vehicle.

The size, according to its manufacturer, will help give the automobile fuel efficiency not found in bigger, heavier models. However, some industry observers have criticized the car’s fuel efficiency claim, arguing that its gas mileage is lower than Toyota Prius and the Honda car models, Insight and Civic Hybrid. Despite this argument, the smart vehicle still comes up fourth among the most fuel efficient cars in the market. In the United States, at least. The smart records an mpg rating of 33 city and 41 highwayThe original version of the vehicle, the Smart Fortwo, can seat two and comes in a coupe version. It has three variations; Pure, Pulse and Passion. The Pure and Pulse models feature Softip manual transmission systems, while the Passion is equipped with the Softouch automatic transmission system.

Reports on the fuel economy of the smart vary. The automobile does have valid claims for being fuel efficient, but other bigger brands and models can claim even better gas mileage and efficiency. The automobile was developed with the idea of creating an affordable, eco-friendly automobile that young people will like. Its entry in the U.S. market will likely decide whether it has fulfilled its initial purpose. The issue of smart car gas mileage has been questioned, not because it isn’t true, but because upon comparison, some car reviewers have found bigger models that have better fuel efficiency performance. However, one cannot hold that against the smart. The car still has a pretty good level of gas mileage performance. And it does look interesting once you get used to its miniature size.

Trading In SUV Is A Big Loss

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

As gasoline prices have soared this year, SUV values have plummeted - by 7 percent to 8 percent in most cases, according to the Kelley Blue Book car price service - while the prices of small used cars are holding strong or increasing, with some models like the Toyota Prius hybrid unavailable without long waits.

The payback in fuel savings from a trade-in could be a long time coming - and it could quickly be eaten up by new car payments for those hot new compacts.

While it might be tempting to trade in your used SUV after spending $100 to fill the tank. It’s important you take everything into consideration . . . or you may end up spending thousands to save hundreds.

For instance, the price of a 2006 Ford Explorer (six-cylinder, two-wheel drive) has dropped by $3,425, or almost 28 percent since January, to $8,875, according to Black Book, another price guide.

At $4.317 a gallon, $3,425 will buy 793 gallons of gasoline - enough for 11,102 miles of driving in the Explorer, even at the EPA’s 14-mpg city fuel economy estimate.
By EPA estimates, dumping an Explorer for a used Honda Car (Civic) will save a consumer $1,890 a year in fuel costs in 15,000 miles.

If gas prices fall, SUV values are likely to rebound, as they have in the past, so it might make sense to wait.

The 1965 Bentley S3 Continental Mulliner Flying Spur

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

One of 20 built, This alloy bodied factory air-conditioned example is the last of the only twenty left drives built. This beautiful example was the subject of a complete mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment by Vantage Motor-works. This is among the finest left-hand-drives classic cars available anywhere in the world regardless of price.

The Bentley S3, a 4-door saloon with seating for five, was produced from 1962 through 1965 with a total of 1630 examples being produced. It was basically a modified and modern version of the Bentley S2. Some examples were bodied by Park Ward, H.J. Mullner, James Young and others, while most received coachwork from the marque.

A limited number of 32 examples were created on a stretched wheelbase adding to the interior comfort for the passengers. In comparison to the S2, there were minor differences; most were aesthetics appearing near the front of the vehicle. The front panels had been restyled, twin headlamps had been fitted, and a smaller bumper was used. The interior’s split bench seat was now replaced by individual seats.

Under the hood was the tried-and-true Rolls-Royce OHV eight-cylinder engine. It had an aluminum-silicon alloy cylinder block with cast-iron cylinder liners. Fitted with two SU carburetors, it was capable of producing around 200 horsepower. Zero-to-sixty took just under eleven seconds while top speed was achieved at around 116 mph. Fuel economy was low, with around 13 mpg combined. Power was sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a four-speed automatic gearbox. The S3 was the final iteration of the S-Series. It was replaced by the T-Type, a derivative of the Rolls-Royce Shadow.

A Sneak Peak Into The New BMW X3

Monday, August 4th, 2008

BMW X3 is the best sell in Europe. It is a little bit strange rough estimate, with a price almost the same like X5 and with a roguish attitude, but X3 was transformed in a big success

Most of BMW engines are amazing and Europeans are going nuts when they hear about BMW cars, much more when the suspension remind us of a limousine. Practically, if we take a good look at the price, we will be able to observe that the only strong and real rival for X3 it is X5. But X3 is more a tall break car than that small SUV on which all buyers are dreaming.

And the fact that the car was receiving a facelift, before the new X5 will be launched is another proof of how much the German constructor care about this car. Though, the facelift is not very spectacular, the car only gets to be more aggressive. The interior is beautiful: the edge, interesting steering wheel, everything let you know that you are in a BMW car.

If you want to buy this top car you have to know many other things that under the 3.0 SD capote you will see the newest diesel propeller from BMW. Manufacturers say that, this engine is something that you can’t disagree and it deserves all the credits! And they really worked very hard to obtain this beauty.

X3 3.0 SD gets from 0 to 62 mph in 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h. And that because the engine develops 286 hp and a maximum torque of 580 Nm starting from 1,750 rpm. What is more interesting it’s that the Variable Twin Turbo technology and this “stage supercharging” permit that the torque gets to 4,400 rpm without harming the car. The makers surely believe in this car and in it’s capabilities and performances.

Classic Cars In Cuba

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Havana is a potent mixture of the old and the new. Modern office buildings punctuate the skyline alongside deteriorating Eastern European residential towers.

Ancient vehicles, some with more rust than paint, share the road with newer, shinier models, while horse-drawn carts mingle with motorcycles. Flea markets display Cuba holiday mementos - wooden models of cars built in the 1950s, which are still seen on Cuban streets.

“Yank tank,” “máquina” “cacharro” ans “bartavia” are all words used to describe the American classic cars in Cuba. It is the only place where history and circumstance have combined to enable a whole society to preserve these amazing vehicles and turn them into a national treasure.

About 150,000 classic cars existed at the time of the 1959 Cuban Revolution when the U.S. imposed a trade embargo on Cuba. After this, international trade was made very difficult, so the cars that were present at the time have been nurtured and cared for ever since.

Of the 60,000 classic cars in Cuba, about half are from the 50s, another 25 percent from the 40s and a similar number from the 30s. Brands include Chevrolet, Ford, Cadillac, Buick, Plymouth, Chrysler, Dodge, Willy’s, Oldsmobile and De Soto – vintage models of all of these can be seen on Cuba’s roads today.

38 jobs go as dealer gives up its BMW franchise

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

A LUXURY car dealership has said its decision to lay off 38 staff is partly due to the gloomy economic outlook.

Maxwell Motors in Dublin, which held the BMW franchise for 19 years, said yesterday the redundancies were a direct result of its decision not to renew its franchise in the face of the current downturn.

In April, the Blackrock-based company, which has been operating since the 1930s, announced it would not renew the franchise when the current period ends this September. At the time, management hinted that the move could result in lay-offs among its 65 staff.

Yesterday, Blackrock managing director Charlie Day said the decision to overhaul the company’s business model was a reponse to more challenging times. He also blamed conditions laid down by BMW.

“The hardest decision of all has been the making redundant of over half our current staff,” he said.

“Some of this team have 30 years and more service with the company and it is naturally with great sadness that the board made its decision.” The firm plans to operate as an independent dealership focusing on supplying premium new and used cars on an independent basis.

The news came just days after it emerged another Dublin car dealership specialising in high-end vehicles, Orwell Motors, in Rathgar, Dublin, has gone out of business.

The company, whose website slogan is “living the dream since 1981″ is believed to have owed Bank of Scotland over €1m before it went into receivership.

Auctioned

More than 75 used cars, including Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMWs and Lexus, will be auctioned off from the firm’s showroom within weeks.

But last night Alan Mahon, the director general of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, insisted there was still plenty of interest in premium cars and low sales in May and June might be due to people putting off a decision on which car to buy in the face of new legislation designed to help the environment.

“Yes, we are going through a challenging year. There has been an obvious downturn in the economy which has coincided with the changes in VRT and road tax but you have to put it in context,” he said.

While annual sales to July were about 15.7pc down on the same period last year, 2007 was the second best year ever. Sales to July for this year had already matched total sales for 2003, he said.

Meanwhile, staff at Wexford-based credit-checking firm Equifax were told that up to 50 redundancies would be made between their base in Drinagh, Wexford town, and their operations in England.

A Look at Those Beautiful Old American Cars

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

To be honest, I don’t like the fact that most cars of today look the same because I love stylish cars. In my opinion, every car should have an individual personality. The classic American cars certainly have this unique attributes. Pontiac, Cadillac, Chevrolet and the names of other classic cars conjure up an image of speeding down the freeways and neighborhoods.

However, people who are concerned with the environment do not patronize big, brash cars because they tend to be gas-guzzlers. For instance, a Hummer SUV gives a staggering nine miles to the gallon. Since I am also an environment minded person, American cars offer me a conflict of interest.

In the past, we were never too concerned about how many miles we were getting to the gallon. A few decades ago, the government didn’t pile the tax on driving costs because fuel was cheap and there was no welfare state to support. However, the price of gas has steadily increased and more people are now concerned about the impact of American cars on the environment.

European cars, such as Saab and BMW, which are more economical to run, are now becoming more popular. However, some people still consider these cars as American cars because some of them are manufactured in the US. These cars represent a necessary lifestyle change, even if they may not be as much fun.

There are a few American cars that have entered the culture as icons. Some American cars have made a contribution to many movies and TV shows. For example, the cherry red Ford Gran Torino was like another character in the “Starsky and Hutch” series. This car is known affectionately as the striped tomato. It screeched around corners and skidded sideways as the two detectives chased after the bad guys.
